Taste of Limmud Atlanta + Southeast 2012
LEARN with some of the country’s best Jewish educators in a stimulating yet relaxed environment. MEET hundreds of other Jews from the Southeast and around the world. EXPERIENCE a Judaism that is meaningful, spiritual, and communal.
JOIN us in March for a taste of Limmud, a JOURNEY of inclusive Judaism that you can follow with the program or CREATE on your own. Come with an open mind and draw from a deep communal spring of Jewish well-being.
Join us for our 5th annual celebration of Jewish life and learning. “Taste” is a delicious, nourishing, satisfying sampler of Jewish learning, culture and ideas. It’s a mini version of our wildly successful LimmudFest weekend held annually over Labor Day in the North Georgia Mountains.
This year, Taste moves to a new venue -- The Weber School in Sandy Springs. So OTP-ers, there’s absolutely no excuse for skipping Limmud this year. Come experience a veritable buffet of sessions including Jewish sacred study, art, music, film, literature, and kids’ camp. It’s all dished up by a diverse array Presenters from around Atlanta, the Southeast and the world.
Never been to Limmud before? No problem! Limmud turns Jewish learning inside out and upside down, with no hierarchies, no titles, and no prerequisites. It’s a place where everyone is a learner and anyone can be a teacher. Design your day based on what interests you, expand your Jewish perspective, and connect with new friends from a whole range of backgrounds.
Look Who's Coming to Taste of Limmud:
Meet three exciting new Presenters
Joel Marcovitch
Joel leads UGA Hillel and is changing the lives of Jewish students by allowing them to find their own unique voice in their communities. Joel has helped raise thousands of dollars for different programs like Dawgs: Ditch the Dumpster and Donate, encouraging students who are moving out of their dorms to give unwanted items which would otherwise end up in campus dumpsters, to local area homeless shelters and soup kitchens. Joel lectures around the world on Jewish community, identity, and the next generation of young Jews are heading. Born and raised in London, he's an avid Limmudnik. He was recently named the Jewish Federations of North America's Federation Hero of the Year 2011.
Marni Davis
Marni studies and teaches American history, Jewish history and the history of ethnicity and immigration at Georgia State. She is especially interested in the experiences of immigrants who settled in the American South. Davis is the author of Jews and Booze: Becoming American in the Age of Prohibition, which explores American Jews relation to alcohol consumption during the years of the national prohibition movement's rise and fall. Marni earned her Ph.D. from Emory University in 2006.
Stuart Himmelfarb
Stuart is interested in self re-invention and “encore careers.” He believes that what Baby Boomers do in their third act of life can have enormous consequences for them, their families, their communities, and for succeeding generations. He created B3/The Jewish Boomer Platform with the idea that the intersection of Boomer engagement and generational connections can transform our communities and help them deal with the challenges of the 21st Century. Stuart's "encore career" as Chief Marketing Officer at UJA Federation of Northern New Jersey followed twenty-five years in marketing, advertising, media and consulting. Along with two co-chairs, he also created the Klene-Up Krewe, a volunteer corps which has visited New Orleans eight times since Katrina.Limmud Donations
